"Beginners" is a series of videos aimed at students just starting their journey on the guitar. They mainly look at ideas around chords and some strumming ideas. They are ideal as a starting point in playing.
This video focusses on starting with "Open Chords" and how by learning four basic chords you can play a variety of songs and start to enjoy your musical journey.
This video looks at how the basic chords are made from 3 notes and how they work together.
This video looks at some simple strumming patterns to get you started.
This video looks at some more complex strumming ideas mixing bass notes in with chord strums.
"Soloing" Is a series of videos with some ideas of new ways to approach improvising guitar solos. They are designed to take you out of your comfort zone and stop you playing the same old licks every time you take part in a blues jam!
This video focusses on setting yourself a "stencil" of note values that you must stick to. By imposing this on yourself, it makes you re-think your licks and can inspire new ideas.
This video looks at how the note you finish a blues phrase relates to the chord harmony behind it. It can inspire you to think about roots, 3rds, 5ths and 7ths as useful chord tones in a solo.
"Concepts" is series of short video concepts to help improve guitar playing and creativity. They are meant as a starting point to inspire new ideas and help guitarists to push themselves out of following the same patterns and ways of playing.
This video is about sliding into the 9th when creating lead parts over a minor chord/sequence.
This video is about using a symmetrical fretboard pattern across the E, B and G strings. (The pattern of 1 then 2 reminds me of the game Hopscotch!)
This video is about choosing one note to be an "anchor" and playing around with chords that include that note. It is about trying new ideas and experimenting with highlighting one specific note within a chord sequence.
This video is about taking a chord sequence and playing around with various ways of making it sound more "close to jazz" with substitutions, alterations and extensions.
This video is about using the open strings to add some colour and interest to blues licks. It focusses on the relationship of the open strings to the key of what you are playing.
This video is about making short blues licks based around hammering from the minor third to the major third of a chord.
This video is about playing a simple I vi IV V chord sequence using chord shapes that are all close together to help ease of movement. This can also help with some lead ideas.
